Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.                                                         Margaret Mead

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me.

"I can't recall a time when education hasn't been a part of my life."

I was elected as a TDSB trustee in 2014. I represent students, families and public education supporters in Willowdale.

I earned a degree in Biology from McMaster University before gaining credentials as an ESL instructor (English as a Second a Language). I started my teaching career at the Board of Education in Osaka, Japan where I lived for more than a decade as an educator and cultural ambassador for Canada. I've also worked as a career councilor and job-skills trainer helping new Canadians adjust to life in Canada.

As a teacher for more than 25 years, I understand the challenges that students and teachers have in the classroom. As a career councilor and social justice advocate, I understand the important role that well-funded, public education plays in bringing about positive change and in creating a healthy, inclusive, and equitable society.

My work in politics comes from my passion for Community Development. I've been a tireless campaigner for the environment and the impacts of pollution; I've advocated for greater access to health-care services for the poor and disadvantaged; I've fought against discrimination through inclusive practices; And, I've been an active school board Trustee - ensuring that I work closely with parents and community members on issues that affect their children, local schools and neighborhoods. I take a HOLISTIC APPROACH to education.

At the TDSB, I am vice-chair of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) and a member of the Aboriginal Community Advisory Committee where I advocate for our most vulnerable students. I am also a Director at the Toronto Lands Corporation, helping to ensure that we take a balanced approach to keep our public schools in public hands, and that they are accessible to all communities & students of all ages.

In addition to being the TDSB Trustee for Willowdale, I teach at an ESL school in downtown Toronto.
